The joint conference aims to bring historians, archaeologists, geneticists, anthropologists, folklorists, linguists, and other researchers together to explore the Central Baltic area, Livonians and minor Finnic languages. The special focus will be towards contacts. The purpose of the conference is to give researchers working on any of these subjects the opportunity to present their current research, get acquainted with the new research in related fields as well as participate in formal and informal discussions, and most importantly find new opportunities for collaboration.

  • 5th Conference on Syntax of Uralic Languages

The Syntax of Uralic Languages (SOUL) is a biennial conference that first took place in Oulu in 2015. Its goal is providing a forum where researchers of Uralic languages working in different paradigms could exchange ideas and discuss their research and data. The talks at the previous SOUL conferences have covered a wide range of topics in both synchronic and diachronic (morpho)syntax in all branches of the Uralic language family, and presented empirical evidence and analyses in both formal and functional frameworks. We believe that bringing together scholars who apply different approaches to comparable data will lead to a fruitful dialogue and mutual enrichment.
